Notice: Zoning Board of Appeals 8/23/21


Dalton Township Zoning Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing at 1616 E Riley Thompson, Muskegon, MI 49445 on August 23, 2021 at 6:00 pm for the following requests:

  • A request by Midwest Sign Company for a variance of 30 sq ft to section 15.12 of the Dalton Township Zoning Ordinance to allow 30 sq ft of the static display face of a nonconforming pylon sign to be changed to electronic changeable message at 5480 Holton Rd, Twin Lake, MI 49457. Section 15.12 does not permit nonconforming signs to be upgraded to electronic changeable copy signs.
  • A request by Paul Liebing to for a variance of 34 ft from Section 4.2.C to construct an accessory building 34 ft in front of the house along the Dalson Rd frontage at 3374 E Riley Thompson Rd, Twin Lake, MI 49457. Section 4.2.C does not permit accessory buildings to be placed in front of principal buildings.
  • A request by Dan McKinnon for a variance of 15 ft from 4.37.B to allow for a 6 ft tall privacy fence located 45 ft from the front (lakeside) property line, and a variance of 50 inches from Sections 4.53.D and 9.5F to allow a deck 22 inches from the north property line at 6470 Middle Lake Rd, Twin Lake, MI 49457. Section 4.37.B requires that fences closer that the required 60 ft front setback be no taller than 4 ft with 90 percent visibility, Section 4.53.D required decks over 8 inches in height to adhere to the setback requirements for accessory buildings, and Section 9.5.E requires a 6 ft setback for accessory buildings in the LR district.
  • An enforcement hearing for a violation of Section 4.26 of the Dalton Township Zoning Ordinance at 3335 E Tyler Rd. Section 4.26 prohibits the outdoor storage, collection or placing of inoperable vehicles, inoperable equipment or other refuse junk or trash in all zoning districts.
